White Wolf Novel Contest
White Wolf Novel Contest
Now this is an interesting idea. Just a few days ago I was talking to my girlfr... NO! Not allowed to talk about her here.. ^_^ Let's start this again...
Just a few days ago I was talking to a friend of mine that I'd like to be a writer, as a profession instead of a hobby. Having it as a profession would allow me to dedicate my time to it, so I would be able to drop my current job, which is what doesn't allow me to write as much as I would want to.
And then this shows up.
Now, don't get me wrong. I will probably submit something to this contest. My only problem with it is that it limits me to the World of Darkness setting. I admit that I have a very vivid imagination, but, when constrained, the possibilities are by extension limited. I don't know if I can pull that off, writing solely within the World of Darkness setting...
Well, maybe if Mage was out...

So sue me!
So, I just got my PSP, and so you'll see a lot of PSP-centric pages here for a bit. It'll pass.
I'm still on schedule for the next story, for instance. It'll be based on the Present Time series, since that's what one of my Official Fans™ said she was most interested in reading on.
But I'm on PSP frenzy right now, so, it'll wait for a bit.
^_^

*gasp*
Oh, the gods! I think I got a comment from someone I don't know IRL!!! so I have a real outside fan!!!!! whohoo!!!! cool!!!!!
I didn't think anyone else would like this.... but I guess that proves that wrong!!!
I hope this isn't one of my friends pulling a prank...
But, anyways, here's future plans. I plan on writing one, or maybe 2 more, in teh Present Time series, so you people can get a handle on what's it about. Then, with that info, I'll make a little poll and ask which you like the best, and I'll concentrate on that one. How's that sound?

Things to keep in mind..
Hello everyone(yeah, all 3 of you!). Now, I recently christened my first official fan, Anais. Stand, Anais, take a bow. *A cute 6-year old stands, sheepishly bows, which causes her to drop her glasses, and quickly drops again under the pretext of looking for her glasses. She doesn't stand up again.*
*Ashtear observes the spectacle, then looks back to the other two, and shrugs.*
In other matters, I've received some constructive criticism towards my last story, "Intruder". We have 2 points.
1) To better describe the characters.
2) To better describe the setting.
Now, my main focus in these was the action, so I hadn't realized I was leaving those two out, so I'll try and deal with them in the future. Also, I had some glaring errors in the story, so I corrected it. In the process, I ended up adding some details here and there, so it might be worth a second read, maybe not.
So there.
Ash out.

Broken like an Angel, by Crossfade
This is a song I recommend to everyone....
Broken like an Angel
---Crossfade
She was a queen
Lost within a dream
Misconceived that he was fit to reign
Lies take victims
Separate them at the seams
Cause them to fall apart
Then move along to better things now
She
Wants to fall in love again
Don't you know that
He's
Satisfied to own her
No time permits to open up
When you've been hiding thoughts so strong
She's been holding out for an angel to come along
No reply from the sky
But she just keeps looking up
She just keeps looking up now
She
Wants to fall in love again
Don't you know that he
He's
Satisfied to own her
She'll never know love's true potential
Lost in the open wind
To his impatience
Never feeling they would fall apart
She let her feelings grow
To tears she'll never show now
She
Wants to fall in love again
Don't you know that he
He's
Satisfied to own her
You know he couldn't see
That she could be his everything
Bringing light to everything now
Oh
She just wants to
Fall in love again
She's broken like an angel

Tidy, isn't it?
Also, those are the pics ForeverZero(that's what I called my Nokia 6620, since, to use BlueTooth, I need to identify the phone) takes with it's camera. The lighting sucks, but that was on purpose. I wanted the screen glare to overpower the image. ^_^ Ain't I smart or something???

Intruder
A sudden shadow shapes itself from the residual darkness in the room. Vaguely humanoid, it lays down above the child, imitating her position. She then lowers herself, enveloping her form in its shadow. "You are mine." The shadow infuses her, runs the natural pathways in her body, coalescing into a rune in her lower back. A symbol of her heritage. Her destiny.
Kayrin looks about the room, having just finished the first of the lesser runes. She stares intently at her, noticing her soft skin and fair face. "Hmm, she's so peaceful like this, asleep." She begins to walk towards her, to feel her warmth again, when the wall besides the bed grows unusually dark. Recognizing a portal spell, she does one of her own, above the intruder, coming both out of the room through the wall and yanking the intruder off from the wall and to the floor with her. They roll on the ground a second, then each leaps to a different direction. They now stand outside the house, each sizing up her adversary.
On one side stands stark white hair, almost transparent at the tips, reaching to her thighs. Skin slightly luminescent from the energy she gathered in anger at this offender. Standing about 5'2", she does not seem very intimidating at first glance, but the scowl on her face does little justice to the anger she radiates right now. Her hair is whipping around her in a mad frenzy, caressing her firm breasts and torso, which shows that, although small, she can probably pull her own, without help of her magick. Her black gown, leaving the chest partly exposed, is now in ruins after the tussle on the floor.
On the other side, there is another female, short height, yet seemingly well-armed. Her slightly curled brown hair is interlaced with chains and spikes that run all over herself, holding the longest of them in her hands as a makeshift flail. These chains are her only clothing, yet they do not bind her or seem to restrict her in any way. She stares at Kayrin, anger also in her face.
"So, you must be her.", Kayrin mutters under her breath.
"Who are you, and what are you doing here?!" was the offender's reply.
"Who I am does not concern you, but I am here to protect the woman in that room. You shall not lay your talons on her any longer!" She stretches that last syllable into a yell, causing the excess energy on her body to flare outwards, the shockwave clearing the area around them.
The freshly-mowed lawn they were on up to now, having suffered only slight burns from Kayrin's aura, was now decimated, leaving most anything within a short distance charred, yet the corner of the house strangely immune. Kayrin looks towards the child's window. "Could it be an unconscious reac...."
This intruder, though seemingly out of control, evades the energy burst by backflipping to the house's wall, and clinging there. From there, she launches her chain. Kayrin snaps to attention, and deftly evades the chain, but the true purpose of the chain wasn't to hit her.
The chain tangles itself in a nearby lightpost, and with a pull that would have been unbelievable from someone twice her size, she yanks the pole clean off the floor, causing it to topple in Kayrin's direction.
Kayrin, a bit faster, dodges to the side, evading the cement column, while simultaneously flicking 3 knives she produced from her gown. The intruder lifts her arm, chain in hand, and sets it to spin.
Steel clashing on steel, 2 of the knives bounce off, skittering in random directions, the third one stuck on the chain links. Pulling back the chain, she twists it in midflight, untangling the knife and sending it end over end towards Kayrin.
"This is stupid. Show yourself!" Yelling this, Kayrin surges with lightning, nature's might batting aside the dagger and racing towards the girl in chains.
The lightning strikes the chains, and scours her skin, burning it away. Her arms suddenly seem to unfurl, showing wings. Her skin burns away into fine black dust, revealing feathers in her hair and legs. She quickly leaps up into flight.
Kayrin stands firm, yet a bit cocky, hands on her hips. "I didn't know harpies had to force their lovers... But then again, you're awfully ugly for a harpy..."
She got the desired effect. The harpy screeched in anger and dove for Kayrin, chains gathering around her for a fatal strike. Kayrin falls into stance, waiting for the right moment, yet still taunting the harpy, keeping her on track.
The harpy strikes forward with her chains, sending them like missiles from point-blank range, while holding the ends of the chains tangled in her arms. The chains land where Kayrin stood, sending up a shower of dirt and rocks in all directions, effectively obscuring visibility. By the time the dust clears, something very impressive is on display.
One of the chains hangs limp from Kayrin's hands, having caught it in flight. But the other one had gone right through her chest, under her left breast. Kayrin still stood there, her stance the same, her knowing smile the same. For now was the time.
Kayrin sidesteps, her body seemingly flowing around the chain, like she was nothing more than a semi-solid shadow. As if this wasn't enough, she starts running around the harpy, with the chain in her hand. The harpy flashes a spin kick to her midsection, but she's moving too fast. She spins around the harpy, and suddenly leaps straight up, causing the ground around her to crumple from the sudden push of her legs.
-o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o
Hearing noise outside, she wakes up. She looks around, stands up, and walks to the window. What she sees outside surprises her, so she runs to the stairs to get to the roof, see better.
She gets outside just in time to see a woman dressed in black come up, spinning like a torpedo, chain trailing one side of her spin while runes etched of lightning arc a trail on her other side. She sees the stranger in the black robes flying in front of her, how in every arc of the spin she looks at her, and smiles. She watches as this woman, whom she feels a strange connection with, snaps the lightning in her hands up like a whip, and how in that precise moment where the lighting is straight up, touches hand to hand, connecting heaven and earth.
And then she can barely watch anymore.
The sudden flash pales in comparison to the deafening explosion, not to mention the unbridled power of the lightning bolt that slams down into the ground. The child raises her arms in a reflexive act to protect herself, and succeeds in much more.
-o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o
Kayrin stabilizes in midair after being flung out by the explosion, and smiles at her childe. "So it has begun."
-o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o
She opens her eyes, and suddenly gasps in disbelief. Her hands face forward, and a dark aura flows from them, enveloping her. Everything around her is decimated. The house itself is in shambles, having crumbled seconds before. She just stands there, in the air, shield protecting her from the still-arcing electric discharges from the objects the lightning bolt electrified. But this shock costs her her concentration, and she faints, dropping some 3 stories to the rubble beneath her.
-o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o
"Shit!" Kayrin quickly fades into the darkness surrounding her, fading back in around her childe , enveloping her frail form with her own body. They slam into the remains of the house's family room, bringing what was left standing down on top of them.
The rubble stays still for a moment, then it stirs. Weakly at first, then with determination. Finally, she brings the rocks from on top of her out of the way, softly bringing the child above it all.
-o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o--o-o-o-o
She opens her eyes, meeting face to face the one she has dreamt with for so long. Those dark purple eyes seem to stare deep into her soul. Yet the connection seems to traverse both ways, for she saw in the depths of those eyes both a desire that would destroy anything in its path and a love that would protect the object of its affection with that same fury.
"I..." she begins to say, but the woman holding her in her arms puts a finger to her mouth, keeping her quiet. "My name is Kayrin, " she says, "and you are my childe." She struggles to straighten herself, standing besides Kayrin. She begins, "My name is Kei...", but Kayrin quiets her again. "The life you used to live is no more. Think of a new name to go with your new life."
With these last words, they both lift up into the air, slowly. Kayrin holds her childe close to her, and they both fade to darkness.

sTATUS uPDATE
Sorry for the title. I use caps a lot at work, so I forget when I have them on. But now that I see it that way, It doesn't look so bad, does it?
My life has been reduced to my cellphone, laptop, work, and girlfriend. That's pretty much it.
Still enjoying the surprising things my cellphone can do, when properly instructed. I even have a mosquito repellant program! And the games are not half bad. No PSP, but no NES either. Besides, the sucky graphics capabilities in most cellphones really force mobile game developers to concentrate on something most other developers have lost: quality.
I'm currently playing Might and Magic, very nice. Also recommend Fantasy Warrior, XIII, both Prince of Persia games, Ancient Empire, Lemonade Tycoon, all Splinter Cell games, Skyforce, and almost anything by Sumea.
On the laptop front, still getting the hang of MIDP 2.0. Very different from 1.0. MIDP is a cellphone programming profile for Java Mobile Edition. Also, I have to start on my writing again, but, one of the advantages of having no fan base is that there's no rush for me to write. ^_^ So, I'll do them whenever I can.
Work sucks, but gets the bills paid. So that's that there.
My girlfriend... well, I'm not allowed to speak of our relationship heer anymore after the last fiasco, but it's all good.
So that's that. Feel free to e-mail.
Ash out.
P.S. Really looking foward to that PSP... *grin*

Apologies
I apologize for my lousy updating habits. It seems all I do now is use the blog as my personal bookmark page. Well, sort of, but it's also so a friend of mine can keep up with anything I see and find interesting. By the way, hi Ozmahunter!
Also, I'm sorry for the lack of stories. It seems I have serious problems with writing consecutive segments, and instead hop and skip from one idea to the next, finishing none. I'll see what I can do about that as well.
The Nokia 6620 is a very nice piece of hardware. IrDA, Bluetooth, MIDP 2.0, SymbianOS, VGA camera, recording both pics and video... Very nice overall. Best phone I've had, and most expensive, too(cost me $200). All I need now is a way to log on to the 'net in my laptop using the phone's GPRS connection, and I'll be happier than a dog with 2 tails.
Also, PSP next week, although I won't be able to get it the very day it comes out, since the phone was so expensive. I'll prolly get it the week after that. We'll see how that manages.
Also, seeing as how I now have a camera on the cellphone, I'm snapshot-crazy. I have to check if I can find someplace to put all of those, so you can see all the crap I see. Especially my friends. Now, I know a few who will bitch at me first thing in the morning to not put up their pics, but from now I say, I'm sorry. Journalism must be impartial in it's presentation of the truth.
Or something like that...
Ash out.

Wow
Damn... I just got off work yesterday, and I needed something new. The PSP's not out yet, and I'm still waiting for my good friend Nacho to get back to me on if he'll sell his iPod(He wants a new shiny iPod Photo), so, the only thing left is my new Nokia 6620. I made my mom get to the mall(she's the owner of the cellphone contract) so I could get it, but her anger was worth it. This is beautiful. Working with it and discovering it for now, will prolly start programming for it in the next few weeks, as soon as I'm done rounding up all the requisite documentation.

Pablo Neruda | “Saddest Poem”
“Saddest Poem”
- Pablo Neruda -
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
Write, for instance: “The night is full of stars,
and the stars, blue, shiver in the distance.”
The night wind whirls in the sky and sings.
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.
On nights like this, I held her in my arms.
I kissed her so many times under the infinite sky.
She loved me, sometimes I loved her.
How could I not have loved her large, still eyes?
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
To think I don’t have her. To feel that I’ve lost her.
To hear the immense night, more immense without her.
And the poem falls to the soul as dew to grass.
What does it matter that my love couldn’t keep her.
The night is full of stars and she is not with me.
That’s all. Far away, someone sings. Far away.
My soul is lost without her.
As if to bring her near, my eyes search for her.
My heart searches for her and she is not with me.
The same night that whitens the same trees.
We, we who were, we are the same no longer.
I no longer love her, true, but how much I loved her.
My voice searched the wind to touch her ear.
Someone else’s. She will be someone else’s. As she once
belonged to my kisses.
Her voice, her light body. Her infinite eyes.
I no longer love her, true, but perhaps I love her.
Love is so short and oblivion so long.
Because on nights like this I held her in my arms,
my soul is lost without her.
Although this may be the last pain she causes me,
and this may be the last poem I write for her.

New Post Auto-Notification
Well, it seems that by the magic that is Gmail, I (think I) have found a way so that whenever I post to the blog, I can automatically foward the new post to others... so if anyone's interested in this, drop me a line, either by posting a comment here (yes, comments are back!) or by dropping me an e-mail. My e-mail addy's on the side.
Ash out.
(edit: Never mind, doesn't work... can only foward to 1 other e-mail addy...
So I'll have to either find someone who offers the multicasting-like service, or somehow trick gmail... hmm....)
(re-edit: If anyone is really interested about such a mailing list, tell me: I'll find the way.. whatever it takes!! ^_^)

Ashtear
Looking side to side, he makes sure no one is watching. Then, he starts to clench his fists tightly, nails biting into the palm of his hand. From this wound, blood begins to well up, until a single drop of it falls to the floor. When the drop impacts the floor, all of the world ripples in response, everything seemingly a reflection in liquid of the REAL world...
This fluid begins to climb his legs, slowly enveloping him. As the fluid covers him, you see that it seems to eat through all fabric on his body, reducing his clothes to nothing, and leaving the viscous liquid fitting taut over his skin. As you see the liquid is almost done, you catch a glimpse of his eyes, burning a crimson red.
Completely covered, the fluid begins to pulse a dark red, like wine. Like the beats of a heart, slow, rythmic, entrancing. Hair the color of ash begins to grow, all the way to his waist, where there was short black hair moments before. His face grows slightly more angular, like those fantasy depictments of elves. His whole body changes, lowering his height from 6'2" to 5'4", and slightly reinforcing his build for speed. You notice the glow in his eyes still remains, despite them being covered by the metallic-smelling liquid.
In a sudden busrt of motion, the fluid seems to suddenly harden, then shatter outward in a thousand pieces, leaving behind an imposing figure. His pants unfurl from the tightness that was forced upon them, revealing very baggy, almost skirt-like pants, like those used by the kendoka of old. His ashen shirt, the same tone as his hair, is accentuated by the black vest that is superimposed over it, glowing with crimson trimmings that seem to continue the rythmic beating of before.
The crystal shards of his cocoon, still spiraling in the air, begin to gather around him, like a jigsaw puzzle assembling itself. Along his left arm, the shards collapse on his skin, forming a sort of arm brace, covering from his wrist to his shoulder in overlapping plates of a glassy material. Along his right arm, something similar, although only covering as far as his elbow. And in the left side of his hip, the remaining shards all arrange themselves into what seems to be a katana, of exquisite design, both the blade and sheath in crimson glass, the hilt done in what seems like bone.
The metamorphosis complete, Ashtear puts his hand on the hilt of his blade, and in what seems like a sudden shift of weight instead of a slash, he slices through the seeming reflection of the world. The fluid all hardens, calcifying into dust, and leaving Ashtear to contend with the true darkness behind this world.
I wrote this to be used as my description for VampireFreaks.com, but I'll prolly use it everywhere.

Hunting for Megatokyo
This was plain weird. I went to borders with Keila a few days ago, and while I read Exalted: Fair Folk, she found Megatokyo Volume 1, which I quickly bought from under her nose. Now, they told me that at the end of that week, they would have volume 2, and by the end of next week, they would have volume 3.
Now, by some strange itch I get, I decide to check on thursday for volume 2. Not only do they not find a copy of Volume 2, even though their system says they should have 3 copies, but they DO find volume 3, which they should have none of. O_o.
So now I have to check for 2 later... Sheesh....

Things are looking better...
Things seem to have gotten better in their own way. Sorry for the lack of updates, but I really am starved for time lately.
To get the best thing out, things seem to have gotten better between my girlfriend and me. We talked for a while, and things seem to be getting better. So far so good. Now, I won't be able to give any more status about my relationship anymore, since I have been expressly forbidden from speaking about the relationship here (something about privacy or whatever...), so that's the last you'll hear from my girlfriend. She says bye. ^_^
Progress report on my stories: Well, they're at the same place they were last post, plus starting another new one. It seems that whenever I have a small lapse in activity, my mind just cooks up something else regarding these stories... If only my mind woul to the end, instead of starting myriad new stories...
I'm now reading Mona Lisa Overdrive, By William Gobson. Like I've found with most his other books, I start reading and for the first few chapters, I'm lost as hell. Then I start picking up. We'll see how this one turns out, although so far it looks as good as the others.
World of Warcraft has been all but forgotten, since I have no time to play. I have like almost 3 levels in rested experience alone, but I can't really play so... I also noticed that most all high-level guild members left the guild, so they could raid high-level content with other guilds... So that's set me down quite a bit.
All in all, I'm at work now, so I'll see if I can use this boring time to finish at least one other writing. Any more delays are just inexcusable to my inmense fan base (now 4, since my brother saw the site a few days ago. Yay.).
Ash out.

Update...
Now, those faithful to reading my posts(yeah, all 3 of you) will have probably noticed my lack of updates lately. Well, it's time to dump everything down, show you what's been going on.
First, and most important, is my serious lack of time. I mean, I work from 0:00 to 6:30, study from 7:30 to 15:00, and sleep from 16:00 to 22:00. Ideally. Usually it's close to that, but I make space in corners(usually sacrificing sleep) in order to do other things that I want to do.
On weekends I have a bit more time, but this is used in trying to catch up with real life, seeing as how it pretty much leaves me behind during the week.
Now, to get the most traumatic thing out, me and my girlfriend of 3+ years, Chrisenid, broke up. Normally this wouldn't be of much concern, since during the length of our relationship we've had our arguments, break up, and get back together in a bit under 2 days. But this one could potentially be IT. Why? Well, I think i've lost that "spark" that animates a relationship. You see, lately, her jealousy, while unfounded, has been fueled by my behavior, I guess, and since I barely have any time for me, i've been taking from her time in order to do things I want to do. As would anyone, this set her off. And when combined with the previous point, this causes her to limit. Now, instead of a fight of epic proportions, we've just had infuriating and annoying comments every day for the past 2 weeks to a month. Such a long amount of time with more bad things than good, to be sincere, has completely killed it. It's done. Over.
I would love to fix things, if not for the fact that I don't want to feel like I've wasted 3 years of my life, then because of the fact that I would spend them again in a heartbeat if I had the chance, and many more if the oportunity arose, but not in the current state the relationship had going. This was hell on earth.
As for my writings, I have 3 writings that have pretty much surfaced in parallel. 2 are with Kayrin, 1 a continuation on V, and another a little side story I'm doing for Keila, my new female best friend(in fact, my only female best friend since I finished high school.) The third story is based in White Wolf's Mage game, based on the alter egos my friends and I used when we played. Back when I had time to play. Stay tuned, I'll try to post them in the week. If I don't, well, then I'm sorry. Life has this way of interfering with what I want to do, it's really unnerving.
As a side note, I've started to try and recollect all books from the Drizzt line by R.A. Salvatore and all of William Gibson's books as well. Reading Count Zero now, and already bought Mona Lisa Overdrive. Also bought the first volume of Megatokyo today, my small donation to Fred Gallagher's great work. Keep at it, buddy. You have single-handedly made my work nights much more fun. Volumes 2 and 3 have already been reserved at the local Borders. I *MUST* have them.
I've found a few hours to play World of Warcraft, and Kyra is now Lv. 55. Kayrim is Lv. 13 now, mostly because of the insane amount of Rested Points I have acquired for the both of them by not playing. Thinking of starting an Undead Mage on another server. But I'd like to get to 60 first. If only I could party more regularly. So, if you need a Priest for Sunken Temple or any other high-end instance, do send me a tell. I'm on the Shattered Hand server. Please?
Ash out.
